The practice of growing flowering plants, fruits and vegetables is called gardening. There are different types of gardening for those that are interested in the beauty of nature.
Gardening can be practiced at home or in the residential area that you are living in. At home you can bring to life plants that will keep the home cool and will bring in fresh air.
Plants that have to be grown at home will be different from what you can plant extensively and will not require much space. That's called container gardening. Plants could be grown in planters, pots and hanging pots. Indoor gardening can be taken up at home balconies patios or rooftops.
In the beginning all plants look small, but it is only when they grow that you will realize that such plants cannot grown in the balcony of your home. You could either then bring them in or grow it in your building compound.
You could convert your building compound in to a beautiful haven. Indoor gardening would include growing houseplants. It could also be a green house where it serves the purpose of air-conditioning.

However with gardening, getting rid of pests is also very important. One has to learn how to rid common pests like moss, weeds and insects like cockroaches or snails and caterpillars that make a mess of plants.
Before you put anything on your plants you have to understand what are its consequences. Make sure of what you are putting and that it is targeted only on the insects and do not affect plants and humans.
Hand made pesticides or natural pesticides should first be used. Spreading bay leaves help get rid of cockroaches to some extent. Chemical pesticides are the last resort of getting rid of plants. As they are very strong and can affect humans too. Moreover they can change the compositions of the plant and if there are any edible plants then they are likely to get altered, making them unfit for consumption.
